Why these details matter

Page count predicts how big a file will be and how long a merge or compress will take. File size decides if it fits an email or portal limit — if it is too large, see the compression guide. Encryption tells you a file is locked and needs a password (our Unlock PDF tool can remove restrictions, not crack passwords). Text vs image explains why search and copy work on some PDFs but not others — scanned PDFs are images and need OCR before text tools can read them.

Text-based vs image-based PDFs

A text-based PDF stores characters you can select and copy. An image-based (scanned) PDF stores each page as a picture, so selecting text does nothing. Knowing which you have tells you whether PDF to Word or PDF to Text will work, or whether you need OCR first.

FAQ

Does it upload my PDF?

No. The file is read in your browser and analyzed on your device. It never touches a server.

Can it open password-protected PDFs?

It detects that a file is encrypted. It cannot crack or bypass the password — that needs the password holder.

Will analyzing change my file?

No. It only reads; your original file is untouched.

Is it really free?

Yes — no account, no watermark, no limit for normal use.
