About PDFzen
PDFzen is a small, independent project focused on one thing: giving people plain, working steps to compress, convert and edit PDFs for free — without accounts, watermarks or upsells.
Who we are
We are a two-person team — a technical writer and a developer — who got tired of PDF "help" pages that bury the real steps behind a paywall or a download button. PDFzen is our attempt to do the opposite: write down exactly what works, the way we would explain it to a friend.
How we test every method (Experience)
Nothing on this site is copied from another blog. For each guide we:
- Reproduce the real limit. We compress sample documents to the exact caps people actually hit — 100KB for job portals, 200KB for government forms, 500KB for email.
- Verify the result opens. Every output is reopened to confirm the text stays selectable and the file is valid.
- Note the honest trade-off. If a method loses quality or has a catch, we say so — see our compression guide.
Why you can trust the numbers (Expertise & Authority)
The reduction ranges (Medium ~55–65%, High ~75–85%) are measured from free in-browser compressors on typical documents, not vendor marketing claims. Your file may differ; the guides tell you which level to pick when it does.
Editorial & update policy (Trust)
Guides are reviewed whenever a tool or portal limit changes. Each page carries an "Updated for 2026" note so you can see it is current. We do not accept payment to rank one tool above another.
